"The student and I went through a large variety of math problems that are on the ACT practice problems website. She will be taking the ACT on Saturday, so we discussed strategies for taking the test. She is very diligent, and desires to do well on the test, so that she can be accepted into the college she wants to attend."
"Today, we worked on practice problems for both the verbal and quantitative reasoning sections, one of which (the quantitative practice set) I made for the student based on the results of his previous tests. We'll conclude that at the beginning of our next section, at which time we'll also go over his analytical essay."
"We first worked on identifying chord progressions only given the melody, and I showed the student a few tactics that should help in the future. Then, we did quite a lot of ear training. We finished the lesson by listening to Ruckert-Lieder by Mahler performed by Chanticleer."
"The student and I covered one data sufficiency question from his homework. He reported that he had done well on the sets, and although he had made several minor mistakes, he was able to see why he got questions wrong using the answer explanations from the book. We then covered algebra word problem strategies. He liked the strategies, so I assigned a set of questions from the prep book on which he could utilize these strategies. Next session, we will review those outcomes before moving onto substantive algebra questions."
"The student and I had a fun session. At first, we worked on 'Beginning Sounds' worksheets, where the student was required to identify beginning sound of pictures. She was able to complete the task very well. She also read two books with my assistance. The books were new to her, so she needed prompts blending sounds of a few words. I am convinced that with more practice, she will read books more fluently."
"The student did very well today. We completed two complex text passages. As we are still waiting for her materials to arrive, we practiced grammar online. We focused on parallelism and punctuation. She is really understanding the patterns. We also looked at correct transition words to use in a sentence. She is a pleasure to teach. :)"
