Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today the student took a practice test for the state exam. After the student completed each section (Section #1, Verbal Reasoning; Section #2, Quantitative Reasoning; and Section #4, Mathematics Achievement) we reviewed / went over each question that he got wrong. He was on task during the entire session. Thus our lesson was very productive."
"Tonight was our first session. The student was very dedicated and polite throughout the session. I asked him to choose one of the 3 workbooks he had to study with. We first focused on analogies. At first, he did not grasp that analogies are comparing relationships, but once he did he performed better. We will continue working with vocabulary. Next, we worked on math. The first drill dealt with fractions, decimals, and percents. Then we moved on to exponents and roots. The student said he needed extra help with exponents, however, he moved through those problems with ease. We will work on roots more next session. Lastly, we worked on word problems that focused on probability and converting units. With the single-step problems the student excelled, and we will continue to practice multi-step problems."
"The student is in the midst of finals, so she wanted to review for science. But first, we had a brief writing/grammar lecture. She and I discussed the first, second, and third person pronouns in the three cases: objective, possessive, and nominative and how to identify the proper antecedent for each pronoun. We then used incorrect sentences to learn which pronoun case is appropriate for each sentence (including the difference between who and whom.) Then we moved on to an overview of chemistry and physics, using everyday examples to better understand concepts."
