Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student's geometry class is covering transformations, translations, reflections, rotations and dilations of figures. Today we made a study sheet of the formulas for the different translations, reflections, and rotations, which I instructed him to memorize by Thursday. I also gave him some real-life dilation problems to do (e.g., photo enlargement). He understood it quite well; this is a fairly easy chapter."
"We went over more test practice. The student will complete a practice test by themselves to see how they are doing on it independently."
"The student worked on extra credit problems for Geometry. He focused on really reading the questions thoroughly, and checking answers."
"We prepped for the student's final. It seems that most of the material was mastered, and he only needed practice with it. The only topic he needed to go over was the new material concerning normal distribution. I gave him a beginner's lesson on the topic and showed him visually as well as algebraically how normal distribution is used. We ended the session going over practice problems concerning normal distribution."
"We're getting the student ready for his finals coming up next week! We reviewed his last test, where he scored a big improvement over previous scores, and discovered that most of his mistakes were simple math errors. He's really good at identifying the right concepts and geometric identities that he needs. Our emphasis will be on slowing down and double-checking the math, looking for errors to make sure mistakes like transposing numbers don't kick in and hurt his chances for top scoring."
"The student has a test on Monday, and she had a lot of proofs and rigid motions that she had already done that she wanted to go over. She has a pretty good understanding of proofs. She was able to do many of her review problems by herself. Her teacher told her the review sheet would be more difficult than the test problems, so she feels pretty confident that she will be able to solve all the proofs on the exam. For the end of our session, we did several problems from a worksheet about solving quadratic equations. Her teacher puts review material on each test, and for this test, it was quadratic equations and FOILing. We did several problems from the worksheet, and I gave her some tricks about how to solve quadratics."
