Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We reviewed the student's homework and notes for his Trigonometry class. The student is working through "similar triangles" and the "geometric mean" theorem. He has a decent grasp of the concept. We did discuss/work out how to derive the formulas together."
"Similar to last week, the session was used to review trig homework. The homework consisted of concepts from the previous assignment, as well as the concept of angles in the four quadrants in relation to a reference angle, the use of the quadratic formula, and different substitution methods. The student has made some progress from last week, but still has a hard time getting started on a solution at times. Once again, this is an issue that can be fixed with more practice."
"We went over the content from the lectures that she missed. This included inverse trig functions, writing the correct trig equations from a data set, and Ferris wheel word problems. She had a good grasp on all of them, but there a few small details that she would occasionally forget. To help her remember I recommended flashcards."
"Today we worked on interpreting scatter plots to determine if they are positive, negative or have no association. The student also graphed scatter plots and found the line of best fit. She used the slope intercept formula to determine the slope and find the y intercept. The student did well and was able to complete her homework assignment."
"We started by organizing the student's school materials. He has trouble bringing home assignments and keeping track of what is due, so we will begin each session by checking his planner to make sure he is writing in it. We worked on a social studies assignment, which we will continue to review. We then discussed percents and I taught the student a new method of calculating percent values. He gets the answer right every time with few mistakes."
"Today we worked on circles. The student practiced finding the radius, diameter, circumference, and area. She did really well and enjoyed the problems. Then to switch gears we did a bit of algebraic word problems where she had to break down multi-step problems into equations and solve for multiple variables. She needed a bit of reminding on the easiest way to tackle the problems, but then she did very well. I will find some more advanced circle work for our next session."
