Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student had a lot of school homework to review today so we focused on that. She did pretty well with her English, but struggled with her math (adding fractions and mixed numbers). I helped her through the assignment's concepts and she was doing better by the end of it. I made a sheet of practice problems for her to work on for next session. She is doing great with her multiplication fluency, but her division fluency is shaky, even with simple problems, so next week we will start doing some simple division flash cards to target this, as it is impacting her success in current math lessons as a building block."
"Today the student worked with adding and subtracting fractions. He worked with mixed numbers as well, adding and subtracting both. He completed 9 pages in his workbook. After finishing that, he read 1 chapter plus a partial next chapter (1/2 hour) with one of his favorite books - Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Great job."
"Today we covered math and reading. We began the session with math, going over the student's math homework that involves number operations involving fractions. She did very well with subtracting, multiplying, and adding fractions. The one area that she needs to continue to work on is with division and remembering the algorithm to complete those problems. For reading, we went over inferring skills and drawing conclusions. She does a great job at giving a basic foundation for an answer. We did more assessment review and she did much better!"
"During our session this afternoon, the student and I worked on her history chapter, which dealt with the beginnings of colonization and the origins of the world economic system. We talked about the theory of mercantilism, the "Great Man" theory of historical causation, and the Seven Years War. As usual, she was engaged and curious and easily connected various cultural developments throughout the period."
"We worked in the student's SAT workbook on grammar and sentence correction problems. She did great! We also researched the changes to the SAT and discussed how this may affect her test. She will review the questions we went over before we meet again."
"Today the student worked on his geometry packet, and then moved on to his biology packet on plants. We talked about the variations in gymnosperms and angiosperms."
