Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I worked on decomposition reactions. We went over naming compounds, which will be on her next exam. The student has been getting a good understanding of naming compounds. We then went over a worksheet she has for homework. The worksheet was writing out the balanced equations for several types of reactions, when given the written set-up. The reactions covered were acid/base reactions, and various types of decomposition and combustion reactions. Out of these types of reactions, her teacher has only gone over acid-base reactions, and even just barely with those. Thus, we looked at the reactions from a broad perspective and I explained the concepts behind the reactions, but did not go into too much detail since I was essentially introducing new concepts to her."
"We went over topics of stoichiometry for the student's test tomorrow. She reviewed everything necessary for her test, and I left her with informative videos to look at if she needs clarification later tonight while studying. I wish her the best of luck tomorrow! I am glad that she understood everything; she should do well on her test tomorrow."
"We studied for the student's unit test on physical science and her quiz on chemical vs. physical properties and reactions. She completed a worksheet and book exercises on her unit vocabulary, then we reviewed atomic structure and the difference between physical and chemical observations. She has a good understanding of the more recent material (difference between physical and chemical properties and mixtures and solutions), but needs more review of atomic structure (where the proton, neutrons and electrons are), the periodic table (determining the number of protons, neutrons, and electrons given the atomic number and mass), and drawing and naming molecules. We will continue to work on this during our next session before her test."
