Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"During our session today, the student prepared for his upcoming unit test on logarithms and exponentials. We practiced using the various properties of logarithms to simplify expressions and to solve for x. We also used the properties of exponents, such as rational and negative exponents, to do the same thing."
"During this session, the student and I practiced creating and simplifying ratios by using greatest common factors. After some initial guidance, he was able to easily gather information from word problems and create an initial ratio before simplification; when asked, he could explain his steps. At the end of the lesson, he confirmed his confidence and thanked me for helping me. After break, we will continue with our work on middle school math."
"During this session, the student and I prepared for his upcoming math test. We reviewed everything from factoring polynomials to rationalization to determining complex roots to graphing. He was quite comfortable with the questions I threw at him, and thus I am very confident in his ability to ace this test. All in all, it was a good session."
"During this session, the student and I reviewed fractions for a homework assignment. I felt that she wasn't really engaging with the material, so I decided to try something a little new. I wrote down an equation and then asked her to come up with a two-step word problem that would describe it. I felt after this, she really perked up and was more energized. I also talked to her about some division and multiplication tricks, which she picked up on really well."
"During this session, the student and I went over material for his upcoming quiz. We were able to go through his entire chapter test review, which covered various topics such as word problems, expressions, real and imaginary numbers, and quadratic equations. He understood the material. We also went over some tips and tricks on test taking, in order to not only manage his time, but prevent himself from getting frustrated throughout. I believe that the session was helpful, illustrating that he fully understood the material."
"During this session, the student and I worked on his study guide for his quiz the following day. The topic was solving simple equations, and for each of these problems, he practiced showing all his work. Once we completed the study guide, I created a few additional problems similar to those that he had more difficulty with on the study guide (longer problems and problems that include fractions). Overall, he feels confident on this topic and actually enjoys solving algebraic equations."
