Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"ISEE: the student writes very well. Her critical essay is good and polished. Continued reviewing percentages, ratios, area, perimeter, volume, algebraic expressions and word problems. Homework: Algebra workbook pg. 3-7."
"Today, the student worked on a reading strategy called one to one correspondence. Basically, it is pointing to each word as she reads so that she can differentiate a letter from a word. This strategy also helps her recognize sight words that she has learned. We also incorporated writing in our session. She had to tell me 3 things that happened in the story (not in sequence order) and tell me what her favorite part was. We then used her favorite part in the story (this helps with making connections) to write her sentence. Her sentence was as simple as: I am a robot. Because she has learned all of these sight words already, the only word that she had to sound out was robot which is the word we used to stretch out so that she can practice learning to decode sounds."
"We continued reviewing vocabulary and testing strategies. We discussed the role predators, prey, producers, and consumers play in an ecosystem and what happens if they are removed. We also discussed natural selection and why certain traits are selected. The student is progressing in her knowledge very well."
"We discussed the last half of Chapter 14 including the Arrhenius equation for the rate constant; reaction mechanisms, catalysis; and the difference between reaction spontaneity and speed, based on the activation energy barrier and net energy difference. We applied these concepts to calculating the amount of a substance that can be produced in a given period of time."
"We went over further math tables with the student today and reviewed her vocabulary once more. We created a matching test to better help her study her social studies vocabulary. We also went over spelling words with her repeatedly as she had not reviewed them before and, in the remaining time, went over 3D shapes for her math class."
"The student and I continued reviewing material from his Latin workbooks and he translated a passage. He should work on reviewing all his notes from the past, particularly focusing on the recent things we've reviewed, like prepositions."
