Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I had our last session today, and did a review of everything. We went over the vocabulary words, did some English and writing practice, and then spent the rest of the time working on math problems. I think she has been doing a great job and hopefully won't be too nervous next week!"
"Went over sample Math, Reading and Writing SAT practice questions. Results were generally satisfying. Covered functions and plugging in strategy in more depth. Did practice sentence completions and sample essay outlines."
"We finished up today by reviewing key strategies for each of the sections and focusing on areas for improvement that we noticed in the last practice test. We also talked about her essay and brainstormed some subject areas that she can draw from to support her arguments. She's worked really hard, and I think she'll do great on the test!"
"The student is doing well on his critical reading and math. We focused on critical reading today, as we have been focusing on math. I feel that he is already much better equipped to read and understand the passages. I think he is still on track to reach his target goal."
"During this session, we reviewed the math practice sessions that I assigned the student the previous week. She did pretty well on the sections. We also worked a little bit on the reading sections, which she did extremely well in on the practice sessions. I don't think we will be working too much on that in the future.."
"We spent most of the time going over answers from a reading and writing section that the student had already taken. We discussed tone, author's intent, and things like finding the most simple version of the subject and verb to understand what a sentence is actually saying. We ended with a few math problems for review."
"We covered strategies for the critical reading section-- both the passage based questions and the sentence completion. We went through example problems and then I had them practice one of the sections. Their biggest area for improvement is vocabulary which I am addressing with vocab lists I am sending them. I am also emailing them notes on strategies. Overall, they did very well, and I am extremely excited to work with them. It was a great first session."
"The student and I reviewed practice math and reading problem solving strategies and completed practice problems together. She will complete grammar practice problems on her own before next week's section, and I will find advanced math and reading questions to begin next week as well."
"Today, the student and I worked through the sections she had completed. We started with math, moved on to improving the sentence, and then finished with critical reading."
"SAT this Saturday. Final vocab drills and math problems. He is trying so hard. He will go on to take the SAT2 in math next, so after this week we'll start working towards that."
"The student's homework from our last session was to do the three math sections from a practice test again. His score improved slightly from last time, and he answered almost every single question correctly. This is great progress because now he just has to focus on the most difficult questions and figuring out the best ways for him to approach them. For our next session, I am going to bring a lot of practice problems for us to go over in detail. A lot of the ones he struggled with were questions that don't have any obvious method of solving, and require the student to come up with their own way of doing it. From there, we will see what he needs to continue working on."
"Continued with "The Death of Ivan Ilyich." She seems to be responding very well. She is learning a lot of new vocabulary and is starting to think critically about the text. I think this will be a very effective method as she often seems engaged and focused."
