Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today, we reviewed more of the ud , uds., and nosotros commands. We did some practice, and I also quizzed the student on the meaning of the verbs on the verb list his teacher gave him. We also did some brief review of direct object pronouns and indirect object pronouns, with specific regard to commands. To end our session, I suggested several ways to approach studying for this quiz."
"The student had a cultural test last week and said he thinks he did well on the multiple choice. This week, he had a grammar packet of papers, so we spent the whole session going over direct and indirect object pronouns. This practice was more advanced than what we had gone over in the fall. I told him to review the pages we went over in the packet, so he can see how much he retained. I also suggested, as always, for him to play an online game to study his prepositions."
"We reviewed homework assigned on Friday by translating a reading and then completing questions that followed in order to practice the preterite and imperfect tenses. We reviewed ordinal numbers that the student will have a quiz on either Monday or Tuesday. We also reviewed the rest of the vocabulary from the current unit, both for a quiz he will have on this and his unit test."
"We went over preterite and imperfect conjugations, and a little bit of a vocabulary. We went over uses of that (eso), this (este), those (esos), these (estes), and that over there (aquello) in Spanish and how to use them when describing a noun. We also went over everything that he needed to know on the final. We created a strategy for him to study so that he can pass the final exam. Overall he did great; he just needed a little bit of guidance. I suggest he use more flashcards to help practice vocabulary and conjugations. They are easy to carry and he can study them at any time and anywhere without his book. It was great working with him."
"The student had a new list of vocabulary, so we spent a lot of time studying that. I tried to emphasize the roots of the words so that he could learn to recognize the same idea in different forms, such as a verb conjugated in different ways, or the relationship between a noun and a verb or adjective with similar meanings, like 'the arrival' and 'he/she is arriving.' I also gave the student verbs to conjugate and instructions to study the vocabulary."
"Today, we covered vocabulary to study for a quiz tomorrow. We did practice with pronunciation, which will help with spelling the words on a test. We also incorporated them into sentences to test the student's knowledge in a different way. We also worked on making connections between words, which helps memorization by association."
