Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We solved problem sets for a coming exam. We reviewed the triangle theorems and how to apply them. Next, we determined the values if the angles formed by parallel lines and transversals. Also, we determined the values of the angles formed by intersected lines using the sum of the interior angles theorem and supplementary angles definitions. We also solved the literal equation for one variables in terms of other variables. Next, we solved several word problems by making an equation. We also discussed the property in geometry that says the ratio of the volumes of similar geometric figures is equal to the cube of the ratio of the corresponding sides."
"The session began with inquiring if the student had scheduled his PSAT test, and the student indicated he had, for the middle of next month, which will consequently affect some aspects of our tutoring going forward. The student and I then reviewed the material assigned for today's session, namely the sample SAT Writing and Language Test questions. We had a discussion of aspects this material ensued, and throughout, the student showed keen understanding and asked insightful questions, and overall seemed to be have a good mastery of the material."
"Today, he and I solved some practice problems he was assigned. He still needs guidance on solving these problems, as he often doesn't know where to start. Once he is on the correct path, he tends to do well."
"We discussed recursion and dynamic programming problems that might come up during her interviews. We then walked through solutions for a couple of example problems, most notably the "n queens" problem."
"We went over the student's math diagnostic. Main concepts covered include rules of exponents, factoring, and percent increase/decrease. Homework is to send me trouble questions from his GRE math textbook and complete verbal diagnostic. Great work, keep it up!"
"We went over phrases to do with beaches today. The student knows phrases to express going to the beach and terms associated with swimming and other activities at the beach. We also went over Japanese calligraphy, also known as shodo. I explained to her the importance of calligraphy in Japanese culture, and how it is now an art form and a good source of learning discipline for children."
