Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student has completed all but two chapters of the assessment test math review and is feeling better about the test. Still encouraging her to read carefully, mark up problems so that she knows what they are asking, and to make a study guide so that she knows what math "tools" she has at her disposal for any given problem."
"Today we devoted the whole session to working on the student's analysis for his English class. He had already done the work for the S -- symbolism -- so he went through his thinking process with me and showed me his results. I suggested some other possibilities and avenues to explore, but he was happy with what he had come up with. We then moved on to the I, imagery. Here he was struggling a bit because the main imagery he had come up with was the buzzing sounds he had already analyzed for their symbolism. So, we went through the text and picked out passages that stimulated the various senses, until he came up with a solution he was happy with. We also touched a bit upon figurative language, tone, and theme, but devoted most of the time to imagery, since he had been struggling with figuring out what to do there."
"The student had taken a test on Friday, so she doesn't have any new material. So I had her practice on some topics from the test: graphically and algebraically solving equations, rate of change, adding and subtracting functions from each other. I also taught her how to FOIL, since she will probably get to that soon."
"The student and I reviewed some final topics before her test on Tuesday. We went over parametric functions, volume formulas and applications, and solving systems of equations. I left her with 2 extra practice problems and the solutions so she could look through some final problems on her own."
"Talked about interval notation and compound inequalities of the AND OR varieties. Took one quiz and did well. Lesson is a matter of language and notation. We will start the next session with a quiz on the interval material, after checking any homework she did."
"The student and I completed passages that dealt with the nervous system, renal regulation of blood pressure, lymphatic system, the digestive system, calorimetry, forces, and torque. Overall, he generally did well in most of the passages that we covered during this session. This is our last session prior to his test on Saturday, and I wish him all the best. It has been a pleasure teaching him for the past few months."
