Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today the student took a little assessment test on words that she has been taught. She did very well and answered all questions correctly. After the assessment we reviewed all her flashcards and she did great as well--she knows her words. At the end I introduced her to names of animals in Spanish with a song, she always enjoys this part. Overall she is doing very well in her lessons. For extra practice she has a sheet to fill out on body parts and clothing."
"I read and corrected written work by the student. She and her mother are very interested in improving the student's writing. The student is a good academic student; there is no reason for her not to improve. They are also very cordial and warm. I suggested for the student to email me her work so I can check it before the next session."
"We reviewed the student's previous exams, discussing methods for taking limits. We also discussed rules of exponents and natural logarithms. He was most challenged with applying the rules of differentiation to functions containing both exponents and logarithms. I told the student to consult a few online resources and suggested that next time I would bring some practices problems for him."
"The student and I worked on two hours of SAT math, with a focus on geometry. He has some gaps of knowledge in some areas, but is a quick study. We covered a good deal of ground and both he and I are confident he has a better grasp of the necessary geometric principles."
"Tonight, we looked at the basics of quantum theory. We discussed how discrete bands of color emitted by a light shone on a prism supports quantum theory. We also discussed the wave/particle duality of electrons and other elementary particles. We then went into calculations of de Broglie wavelengths and converting between frequency and wavelength. Finally, we went over the quantum numbers; what they represent and how they are assigned."
"We primarily reviewed/made corrections on a quiz that the student recently got back from his teacher. Additionally, we worked on strategies for solving word problems that involve finding/using information regarding 3-part ratios."
"Today, I had the student working on problem sets covering fractions, order of operations, and geometry. To review for her standardized test next week, I had her do multiple choice problem sets from a website. We covered how to convert fractions into decimals and percentages, PEMDAS, and how to find the area of a rectangle or triangle. I had her do a few word problems on how to show percent increase or decrease, as I know she seems to struggle with those the most. She was very focused today, which was very beneficial for the amount of work we covered. I do think that her arithmetic skills are improving, as she seemed to do well with the amount of long division we did today. Overall, I'm very impressed with her performance today"
"The student had no math homework so we worked in basic programming. We worked on the Internet to download a program and then did some work on paper. We reviewed the general concept behind programming but will need the program to get more work done."
"We continued working in sentence structure. The student is still struggling with the use of "the" "a", and "an". She also needs more practice with the use of personal pronouns. We practiced reading, writing, and conversation. She was best at conversation, and needs to improve a little in the writing part. Her pronunciation is much better. I left homework for her to practice sentence structure."
"We read passages from level C. He read 5 passages from level C so well that he now has gone up to level D. He read his first passage from level D and did a good job."
"I helped the student to work on the topic of "time", which features in his study right now, we went over different ways to express time in Chinese, as well as how to write hour, minute and second. we also studied today, yesterday and tomorrow. I asked him to translate sentences that deal with time. at the end, we did dictations on several time related sentences."
"Reading and writing strategies were covered. Student will provide copies of completed tests, quizzes as well as samples of her writing and essays for the next session. Student was very receptive and is eager to improve her grades. Overall the session was excellent and a success. It's a pleasure working with this student."
