Tutoring review by Joe in Shorewood, WI
During this session, we focused on hyperbolas. This included the transformations of hyperbolas and the deduction of formulas from related parameters, such as asymptotes and foci. The student is getting the material, I believe. I will see him again soon!

Tutoring review by Grace in Shorewood, WI
The student has a review packet for her calc II class that she needed some help with. We discussed general topics and examples similar to her review problems. She needed to refresh her deriving and integrating skills and she was unsure about Riemann sums and how to use them to approximate an integral. She is still somewhat shaky about them, however we did clear it up a little bit. We also found some resources for her to look at to hopefully understand a little bit better. We went over differential equations, solving them, verifying them, methods. She is still struggling a bit with the fundamentals of what a differential equation means and what it signifies. However, she showed improvement by the end of the session. We will continue to study this concept.

Tutoring review by Constance in Shorewood, WI
We began making graphic organizers and then wrote paragraphs from them. I began with a personal example from my own life and then the student did one from hers. She enjoyed doing the G. O and did one on her daughter and is writing a paragraph from it for homework. The strategy I used mostly was modeling. We then went over some grammar and did some subj-verb agreements with compound sentences which she was strong in and finished up with sentence types and punctuation. She is a bright and eager learner and a joy to work with!

Math: Going over sticky problems. When you have shapes - look to simplify your life! Can you make it smaller? Can you make a known shape out of a wonky one? Passages: Is there an I? See the last thing that "I" said. It may help to get an overall understanding of the passage. Overall: You are so well prepared. It's all about knowing that you know what you know (and you know it well!). So get rest, eat breakfast, and be confident in yourself.

Tutoring review by Laura in Shorewood, WI
The student and I worked on transformations of the graphs of the rational function y = 1/x. He needed encouragement to graph faster by sketching the general shape instead of specific points. He showed a great attitude and was not afraid to tell me when I was over explaining! Strategies I shared were to pull out the a, h, and k from the equation and use them to determine asymptotes. I did not leave him with extra practice and it did not seem necessary since he seemed to have a good grasp of it. He is personable, engaged and happy when those 'lightbulbs' go on!

Tutoring review by Steve in Shorewood, WI
We reviewed the student's previous matrix test where he struggled with matrix multiplication and matrix algebra. We practiced matrix multiplication and solving equations by calculating the inverse and applying the inverse to both sides of an equation.
