Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We worked on handouts the student had from her class. There were a lot of translations to do from Japanese to English. Each sentence contained one simple grammar construct to translate, and sometimes they had several grammar issues combined together and more to translate in casual forms instead of formal. The student did very well, like she always does. As she mentioned, memorizing all vocabulary will increase the score on her final!"
"Today, she and I went over the days of the week in German. We constructed sentences using these new vocabulary words. Then, we went over 'Schulfaecher', or 'school subjects,' that you would learn in high school or college and practiced both saying and writing these words in German. Our next session will be on Monday."
"Today, we covered causative verbs. We talked about how to conjugate the "ru" and "u" verbs, worked on some examples, and looked at their grammatical structure. We also covered their use as transitive and intransitive verbs, as well as their use in various contexts (i.e. to ask for permission). We practiced creating sentences and translating Japanese sentences into English, as well. We talked about formal and informal conversions of the verbs, as well! Great session overall!"
"Today, we did an intense review of the adjectives and their conjugations. We went over a chart of 11 adjectives and their pronunciations, definitions, na vs. i adjective categorizations, and conjugations. The student did a great job working through the chart! At the end of the session, I tested his memory on the definitions, and he got most of them right!"
"Covered various topics. The lesson was almost entirely focused on Japanese conversation, with slight breaks in English used to clarify/translate terms that the student was struggling with. Suggested that he continue watching Japanese television for hearing/vocabulary retention, as well as keep a notebook with Kanji that he doesn't know in order to promote Kanji retention."
"First we reviewed basic ways to talk about yourself, your likes and dislikes. We learned the days of the week and practiced them. We also covered some words surrounding weather and describing the weather and I'd like to do more with this next week. We practiced 'tai' and making sentences with various verbs as well as a little bit of "ni iku" with more on this later too! Finally, we practiced the construction "jikan kakarimasu" for saying how long certain actions take. The student's homework is simply to review her notes from this session to be refreshed for next week!"
