Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We covered basic study skills and approach to information, including "when to do rote memorization" and "how long to study for." The student understands the concept, he just needs a little explanation here and there. We will cover in the future how to apply the concepts to the questions in class."
"The student and I met to work on molar relationships and get her ready for an upcoming quiz. She had problems understanding how moles related to number of molecules and mass and how to organize her problem-solving strategy. I broke down all the concepts and took some time to explain to her how molar relationships work. I also had her work through problems, first with me and then by herself, to get her to become more comfortable with the mathematical relationships. Overall, I think that she understands how the relationships work very well, and all she needs is more practice."
"The student and I went over more stoichiometry problems and unit conversions. We included Avogadro's number in the problems, and I created questions that branched off of given problems in his worksheets. He definitely has unit conversion down, and I think he is very well prepared for his test. He can do these problems without hesitation now, which is great. We also worked on a worksheet of equations to balance, learned how to balance equations using fractions, and how to turn those fractions into integers."
"We reviewed and took notes for the chapter over the water cycle. We took a couple breaks in there, but we finished the chapter with the student taking the notes. She has a good grasp and memory of Earth science and did very well when I quizzed her about general concepts, vocabulary, and material we covered from the session."
"This was our first session together. We covered electro chemistry for his test he had on Friday. We primarily focused on a review sheet he was given in class. The review sheet focused on redox reactions and identifying if they will occur between reagents and elements. In addition, it had some practice problems that involved balancing redox reactions with the use of water and H+ molecules. He is a very hard working student and had a great attitude towards learning material he finds challenging."
"I worked with the student on ACT prep. We focused on the science section of the ACT. We reviewed science strategies we used in previous sessions. He did a great job and scored a 28 on a science practice test. We began a few passages of another science test, this time focusing on timing as well as content."
