Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I covered the simple interest equation and went over several examples. He understood the material well and was able to solve problems correctly. He seems to understand the topic very well."
"The student and I discussed his weekend and upcoming break. He said that he believed he had scored well on his spelling test although he had not received it back yet. We worked on word problems in math today. Some of the problems required multiple steps and some required counting money. He struggled with remembering the multiple steps required and took some time when figuring how much change was to be received back in some questions. He has to take his time and read very carefully with word problems. He can do the work but must become comfortable with word problems and read them carefully."
"The student and I discussed in English, nouns as subjects, direct objects, objects of the preposition and pedicab nouns, adjectives, verbs, and clauses. In math, we discussed percents, ratios, and decimals."
"The student and I first worked on a review of her homework. She is very proficient with the standard algorithm in math for long division. She was having difficulty understanding what she was doing and why, however. For each problem that the student solved, we stopped and created a word problem using the information to build understanding. Additionally, after finishing homework, we worked on alternative methods of solving division problems that are covered in her curriculum."
"The student and I focused on some word problem solving, using some practical examples to help put some scope on the utility of solving these types of questions. Using topics related to budgeting, hourly pay, and savings, we were able to calculate missing numbers and ideas using basic addition, subtraction, and multiplication. We also continued to explore the idea of how division is repeated subtraction, while using larger numbers."
"The student and I had a fantastic session! She and I went over her homework, which consisted of word sorts and reading. She read from a book about a fox and fall leaves. We worked on reading comprehension and using descriptive language from this book. After seeing her report card, we will continue to work on these aspects of reading so that she can become a stronger reader! I am so proud of the work she did last night, and I know that if she continues to work as hard, she will have great reading comprehension skills!"
