Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student is one step ahead of the class. Today, we reviewed system of equations and went over some SAT problems that covered this topic. We also went over calculating the volume of several different shapes to prepare her for the Pre-algebra assessment test. I advised that she start working on word problems dealing with system of equations (these are especially tested on the SAT). Also, congrats on her 98% test score!"
"The student is preparing for an end-of-semester exam over all topics covered. I worked with the student to complete a practice review test. We covered a wide range of topics including parabola transformation, solving quadratic equations for x-values, identifying axis of symmetry & vertex, addition & multiplication of polynomials, equations with complex exponents, straight-line equations with slope/y-intercept, and solving inverse functions."
"The student is still having a hard time with tests, which is okay. We just need to address it. She understands the material very well. Today we discussed odd versus even symmetry, end behavior, and higher degree polynomials, and she was through with her homework early, so we did some extra practice on the website. I'm still thinking about ways to address her testing situation."
"The student is still working through seeing the power rules and being able to deploy them with more confidence and accuracy. He has some review with that material. He also has review with the Pythagorean theorem word problems. These shouldn't be huge time commitments. I am going for about 15-20 minutes of review. The new material involved adding and subtracting radical expressions and methods of simplifying. We practiced a ton today with these. He can now comfortably work through these problems. We also added binomial expressions with radicals, and reviewed FOILing."
"The student is taking a practice test for his online course later this week, so today, instead of learning new material, we reviewed some of our older notes. As is often the case, we ended with him making a list of topics to review and explore before our next session."
"The student is taking the High School Placement Test in January, so his mom wants me to start preparing him for the test. I had him take a vocabulary and math test. He did well on the math part. Our focus will be on the vocabulary and comprehension."
