Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I worked on going over the last part of Unit 4. We mainly worked on simplifying expressions and finding restricted values. We also went back and reviewed the first two sections in preparation for his quiz on Monday."
"The student and I worked on her algebra study guide for this week's test. We were able to go over all of the problems that she needed help on, and several problems that she was more confident with. We also went over her mistakes on last week's algebra test. She scored a B, and although she'd like to do better, this isn't a bad score. She understands much better after we've gone over the problem together, and I reminded her that she should show more steps than she thinks is necessary on a test. The extra steps help make sure that she does the fundamental skills correctly, and also help her not skip over any parts."
"The student and I worked on her homework assignment, which took her function work a step further. It now referred to the parts as rate of change (slope) and y-intercept. She and I had been using that terminology already, so I was glad to see that that helped prepare her. We also had time to continue on work on the future chapter, looking at using square roots in the process of Pythagorean Theorem. We took time before completing practice problems to understand where this theorem was derived from and what it means."
"The student and I worked on her review guide to prepare for her upcoming test on quadratics. She asked questions about complex numbers and various methods for solving, but she is working well and seems to be prepared for her assessment."
"The student and I worked on her test review, which included graphing functions of degree 2 and above. We also worked on solving exponential and logarithm equations and their rules. We worked on quite a few problems together, and she understood them better and better the more we worked on them. By the end of the session, she understood very well."
"The student and I worked on her written problem the entire time. It was very involved, with several parts and graphs included. She is a smart young lady who is able to do the work. She understood the work, which I think is the most important thing. Of course, with this being the written problem, she needed to be able to articulate her actions/calculations in a logic order with the proper terminology. She continues to improve as we move along together."
