The student and I spent this session working on the newest component of the test: integrated reasoning. We are only spending this session on it. The student is pretty good at this given his numbers orientation. Doing these problems is difficult on paper, since on the test you are given spreadsheets that you can manipulate and an online calculator to use. My best advise here is to think before you calculate. The online calculator is cumbersome and time consuming and many times the problems require only estimates rather than specific numbers to solve. We spent the end of this session talking about test taking skills and maintaining energy and confidence in a nerve wracking event like the test. He should do well if he keeps his confidence and energy strong.

This was my first session with the student. We spent a large portion of our session covering the GMAT exam preparation process as well as strategies for solving different types of problems (i.e. quant and verbal). Overall, I think she has a solid plan in place for her preparation and she has a very achievable goal of scoring 600 on the exam.

He did drills on the verbal section of the test. The student has shown a lot of improvement in reducing his time to solve critical reasoning and sentence correction problems. The only area I would recommend continued drills is on idioms. For the rest of the session he did a basic arithmetic review and then started working on rate and work problems. He found the refresher helpful and will be doing more rate and work problems on his own.
