Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student has a test next week on quadratic functions. We did numerous problems trying to get him to remember the quadratic formula. He seems to have it memorized. We then did some examples of finding the vertex and intercepts in order to graph the function."
"Today, we reviewed the student's makeup work, and he did well. He did better with the quadratic formula, but we will review a couple of problems again on Thursday. We also worked on going from standard form to vertex form, and he understood that, so we began to work on finding the zeros, which is where we will pick up on Thursday. I'm hoping to better connect these ideas together for him on Thursday so he can flow between the three ideas."
"I covered quadratic equations in factored, vertex, and general form. Most of the session was spend doing practice problems, and I gave out tips and explanations for how to distinguish the different forms of quadratic polynomials. I also went over completing the square, and the student was beginning to catch on. He will most likely have a homework assignment about completing the square, but I wanted to go over the concept again with him because he has a test or quiz sometime next week."
"During our session today we worked on solving linear equations using matrices. This is probably the hardest concept in Algebra. The student is getting the hang of the problems, but we still have more practice to do before he has completely mastered the concepts."
"The student and I did a thorough review of all quadratic equation techniques discussed thus far in his class. This is a continuation of the previous past few weeks. All in all, he is doing well with the material. He should be fairly prepared for his test, since he is allowed to use the calculator on the test."
"We covered how to actually solve rational expressions. We covered how to determine extraneous solutions within the rational expression. The student overall grasped this material very well, as it was sort of a review of the previous lesson."
