Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student completed a critical reading section and a math section on her own. We spent most of the session going over these sections. Her weakness in the math is the student produced response questions. She is doing better with the reading comprehension when she attempts the passages before sentence completion questions. She still needs to work on building up her vocabulary."
"The student continued her work on essays and the critical reading section. Her transition sentences have improved greatly, adding a cohesiveness previously missing from her work. We still have a few things to work on, but there is definitely improvement. We focused on literature passages for critical reading, looking at the kinds of questions specific to those passages."
"CRITICAL READING - We reviewed the vocabulary the student was assigned. He has mastered most of these words. We agreed to do 7 new words a day, and he will prepare these for the next time we meet, in 8 days. WRITING - We went over the "Common Grammar and Usage Errors" in the prep book, and the nature of questions on the Writing section of the exam. We completed select questions of each type together and have assigned more for homework. MATH - He had selected problems from his homework that needed more explanation. We worked through these together, and I provided topical instruction when needed. These topics included: converting ratios and percentages; writing step-by-step strategies to solve for variables; triangles; and more. We also discovered an often-made mistake of adding instead of multiplying squared variables. With these reinforced techniques, he will attempt to finish the problems he skipped as well as a few new sections. HOMEWORK - In the next 8 days, he will complete two practice exams: the diagnostic test and Test 1 prep book. He will also complete sentence improvement exercises in the writing section, 56 new vocabulary words, and additional math exercises."
