Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"During today's session, the student and I reviewed the timed practice I had assigned to him. He performed well, but there is room for improvement. He is accustomed to using mental math and pen-and-paper calculations when the answer could be produced much more quickly via use of a calculator. With that in mind, today we reviewed the functions of his calculator. I have instructed him to make better use of available technology when completing future timed practice."
"The student and I focused on math for the first portion of her lesson. She has improved quite a bit from when we started and was able to answer most of the questions. The second half of the lesson we focused on writing. I assigned her additional practice before ending the session."
"We worked on establishing what the student's strengths and weaknesses were when writing the essay portion of the SAT. We analyzed her approach to answering a prompt--from choosing a position to selecting supporting examples to writing a body paragraph. We discussed what made a good argument/ example and how to allot time accordingly. Using the scores from her recent practice test (which were already very good) we were able to focus on specific problem areas--namely argument selection, test anxiety, timing, and essay structure. I left her with some prompts and asked her to complete them as though she were taking the exam before our next meeting."
