Today we finished making notecards for the WWI terms.  We had 15 minutes left at the end of session, which I used to start quizzing the student on those terms.  She knew a lot of them because of how much we talked about yesterday and today, while making the cards.  She had also finished the vocab notecards on her own and had begun learning them.

The student and I started off by going over the two thesis statements that I had him write in response to two sample SAT prompts.  He's going to use one of the theses to write a full essay, and we'll go over it next week.  Additionally, I brought some example essays written by other students for the SAT.  The scores of these essays ranged from a 2 to a 6, and we went over what made the "6" essay stronger than the other two and how he can apply those principles in his writing.  The last thing we did was go over the sample problem sets I had him do last week, and we are going to focus on mastering the different types of problems on the Reading/Writing sections of the SAT as we move forward.

The student and I worked through her review. We both selected problems, and I wrote down the general rules for her as we went. The main issue was graphing. I told her with logarithmic and exponential equations, it is best to start with the y value and find x this way your coordinates are easier to graph. She had very many "ah ha" moments, so I feel like she will do well on her up coming test.

It was a good session because the student learned some new efficient ways to solve certain problems. She also was exposed to a different type of question that we hadn't seen yet. For our last session she will have completed a whole timed sample test so we can review the questions she got wrong and work on her weak points.

Today we went over more of the student's diagnostics and focused on individual problem types and how to solve certain questions. This included systems of equations, using the quadratic formula, foiling and factoring, and exponents and roots. We also went over rate problems using distance, time, and rate.
