The first student and I worked on geometric concepts more such as the surface area and lateral area (volume) of 3D shapes such as cones, spheres and cylinders. Once we had discerned the correct equations to use, he had no issues with using the correct equation for what to determine. The second student and I worked on finding the greatest common factor of polynomials. We had a worksheet to focus on and the first part went very well with the student able to correctly find the GCFs of these problems. We will continue to work on current and previous work so that he continues to improve with math

At the beginning of this session, we finished the student's assignment on inequality word problems. She did very well on these complicated problems with some guidance. We then moved to solving equations with variables on both sides. From there, we transitioned back into word problems. We established a procedure for parsing word problems and I assigned three problems for her to complete before our next meeting. With our next meeting I hope to finish work on these word problems and continue to review past material that was troublesome.

The student and I reviewed for a test she is scheduled to take soon. The test covers graphing linear functions on a coordinate axis. It also tests their ability to graph a system of linear functions and identify their solution, which is where they intersect. She completed approximately 10 of these problems for practice and they were answered correctly. She had no problem identifying a system that has infinite solutions and one that has none, as is the case for parallel lines. We reviewed how to write a system of equations that either had one, infinite, or no solutions. Her algebra skills seemed very strong throughout our practice. We also discussed how to solve a system of equations algebraically, either through the substitution method or the combination and elimination method. She understood all of the concepts by the end of the session and I suspect the test will go very well for her.
