Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"In this session we prepared for a test over radical expressions, solving radical equations and simplifying expressions. The student supplied 20+ problems that covered several scenarios. She expressed a greater confidence in the material than when we started. She will have a test tomorrow over the material."
"We worked on the integration chapter in general in order to review for the student's exam Monday. We covered Riemann sums, the fundamental theorem of calculus part 2, u-substitution and the limit method for definite integrals. We did a few practice problems for each subject making sure that the student could solve each type of problem on her own. She plans to work on the material over the next few days before we meet again on Sunday to finish off the test prep."
"We have covered topics including exponents and finding roots of quadratic equations. The student struggled remembering small details. On the last exam she did a minor mistake and that cost her many points. She was full of energy and wanted to learn the material. I recommended her to do more practice problems to make sure that she do not get minor mistakes. We have reviewed a practice worksheet and a test that she already took."
"During today's session we spent the time reviewing for a unit test that the student will take tomorrow. We reviewed operations with rational numbers including fractions and decimals. She showed good retention of what she has learned so far this year. She was able to identify number sets (real, rational/ irrational, integer, whole) of various numbers. She also demonstrated an ability to add and subtract with negative and positive decimals, fractions and mixed numbers. We worked specifically on organization when modeling on paper, as well as identifying when it is useful to work with improper fractions versus mixed numbers."
"We went over an old test in prep for a new one that is happening tomorrow. We went over graphing functions based on derivative info, classifying critical points, maximization problems, Newton's method, linearization, and related rates."
"We went over derivatives and their properties. The student is good with the overall concepts, but he tends to go too quickly through the problems and not show his work. This hindered his accuracy in problems even though he knew how to do them! We discussed that going slower will help catch his errors, and improve his test scores. I mentioned that doing some practice problems will help in the meantime before we meet again. I showed and explained how to get there, and what to expect. The major win this session was gaining confidence, which will help towards success on the upcoming test."
