Science Tutoring review by Orkhan in Seattle, WA
The student had to review for her final on Friday. The teacher gave her a review sheet, from which she asked me to go over topics that she was not confident in, including: Cell organelles and organization of life, Cellular Respiration and Photosynthesis, Enzymes and Controlled Experiments. I told her to review our notes, and study the remaining topics. Otherwise, she was clear on the topics we covered.

We began with brief introductions, followed by arrangements for the semester's schedule. We began our Biology review by discussing the first week of lectures. To do this, we used the practice questions to thoroughly review the preliminary material on cell structure and the major differences between different kingdoms of organisms. We also made preparations for the upcoming lab. She is proficient with the material. Her high school experience with AP Biology provides her with good working knowledge of these introductory topics. I requested she send any digital materials that were provided by the professors or teaching assistants.

The student has an exam coming up this Monday, so much of this session was focused on reviewing for his exam. The topics covered were based on genetics concepts starting with Mendel's laws and experiments. We covered terms like genes, genotype, phenotype, heterozygous and homozygous, etc. The next concept was the patterns of inheritance (i.e. simple mendelian and complex inheritance). Following that, we covered the laws (law of dominance, law of segregation, etc.) and we finished the review with the purpose behind pedigrees.

The student and I went over the material on her most recent test: phylogenies and evolutionary mechanisms. Overall, I think she's doing well. The test had some difficult questions, but we went over the material and I think she can explain it better now.

Reviewed for a test that she has the following day over the plasma membrane and the fluid mosaic model. She was pretty confident with the material and had already done the review problems and review worksheet, so we just went over those again.

Science Tutoring review by Farrah in Seattle, WA
At the start of the session, I verbally quizzed her over material we went over last time. If she got anything wrong or was confused, we went over it. We continued in her biology book...all the macromolecules and cell organelles. While discussing nucleic acids we touched on DNA transcription and translation. I showed her a video on how DNA is compacted into a cell. I also showed her a video on transcription and translation. It helps to visualize things.
