Tutoring review by Liban in Centerville, GA
We went over advanced series and sequences. The student already had a detailed understanding of the basics and the concepts of convergence. She had trouble comprehending the Maclaurin and Taylor series and its application. I broke down her notes and showed how the basic model of the Maclaurin series is applied to specific functions creating a power series. Once she understood the basics, I showed her how alterations to the function can be reflected in the Maclaurin model. We then began reviewing the application in approximating the integral. It took the both of us a couple of attempts before we broke ground and comprehended the key behind it. After a couple more practice problems she began to feel more comfortable with the material.

Today we worked on chapter 2, which involved transformations. We worked on defining transformations and giving examples of them, and then did several proofs of different cases of transformations. He did very well with proving, though I would like the two of us to work on making his proofs sound more mathematical. I asked him to read two pages for homework.

We finished up our discussion of thermal physics and thermodynamics, and moved on to our discussion of modern physics. Although some of the concepts were difficult to explain, the student and I were able to focus on the core concepts and how to work problems involving the thermodynamics section, as well as clear up any questions he had from the problems he finished for this lesson. I will be sending him practice tests so that he will stay up to date on the previous sections which we did not review that he is confident in. For next lesson, we will finish up the modern physics section, which involves a lot of chemistry, so hopefully he will be able to recall some of those concepts.

Tutoring review by Pranav in Centerville, GA
We covered ACT science today. We did an entire practice test and I can already say that the student is doing much better in science than math. She seems to understand it more and even likes science (especially biology) in general as she did well in the biology focused passages. The only thing I would say she needs more practice in is speed. It is taking her a bit too long to see trends in graphs/ charts and to analyze them. We went over some general tips including to look at the questions first as a lot of time can be wasted in reading the irrelevant passages that precede the science questions. The student was cooperative and polite.

This evening the student and I reviewed the first 20 questions in the algebra diagnostic for the GRE. She demonstrated good understanding of the different concepts that were used in this section of the material. She will use hear it, see it, say it, write it as a study strategy to involve as many senses as possible in the learning process. She will be working the next set of questions for our next session. She has a terrific attitude!

We practiced how to form the mouth for a correct pronunciation of each letter and letter combinations used to write different words.
