Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today we finished the informative essay we had started last session. We reviewed our planning and writing process in order to make sure the student understood how to write an essay properly. We then began a second informative essay, focusing on the planning."
"The student is still struggling with nonfiction passages, as I saw in a graded homework PARCC-style passage with questions. She has improved greatly with her fiction passages."
"When I arrived this afternoon, the student excitedly told me he got his own copy of "No Summit Out of Sight!" He had read 10 pages on his own, and summarized them for me. Because he was so excited, we decided to start our session reading the book. We read 20 pages and then he answered a short constructed response question based on the chapter. I have been emphasizing restating the question in the answer. We then read a short text about components of weather. I timed his reading twice. After the first read, I underlined words he struggled with, we practiced pronouncing them, and I asked him to read again focusing on his fluency, expression, and pronouncing the underlined words. During the second read, he read 30 seconds quicker and with much more expression. The student scored an 8/10 on the comprehension questions for the text."
