Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"This session, the student and I began learning about integrals, or anti-derivatives. Then we went through a chart and figured out what the integrals of the most common functions must be. After this, we moved on to the idea of doing u substitution. We did several practice problems right out of the gate to solidify this material from the last class. This led us to the end of our session."
"The student and I went over some of the new material he learned, which was revenue, cost, and profit functions. Our review of the homework for this section took up the majority of our time, but we also spent the last half hour on finding the derivative of log and e functions. He has a quiz on Thursday on this material."
"The student and I discussed the topics on her most recent homework assignment, including the washer method, rotating solids, and ending with arc length."
"The student and I met for the first time and began by completing her math homework together. Topics on the worksheet included: writing the signed number to match a verbal description; simplifying absolute value expressions, including some with simple addition or subtraction; locating points on the coordinate plane; moving within the coordinate plane and giving coordinates after a move; and, identifying quadrants in the coordinate plane. After homework, we played two card games to practice math skills. She seemed very serious about her schoolwork throughout the session. She was surprised to see that the 8th grade skill of moving within the coordinate system using only algebra was accessible and understandable to her, showing her eagerness to learn and curiosity about different ways of doing and thinking about mathematics."
"We went over a review packet for an upcoming test. The student needed some guidance with inequalities and the basic curve fitting that the teacher would test them over. With a bit of review and guidance, he worked through the problems with only occasional minor mistakes."
"Yesterday, the student and I worked through his chapter 1 assessment, section by section. He did really well with most of the problems, he only struggled with so vocabulary and also tried to rush a couple of problems. He just needs to slow down a bit when doing problems so he doesn't make mistakes with negative signs or arithmetic."
