Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"In this session, we covered various topics including calculating a mean, a weighted mean, calculating sample standard deviation and variance, and converting a raw score into a z score. Because the student is trying to get caught up before taking an exam, we will be scheduling another session tomorrow."
"The student completed her fourth tutoring session aimed at improving her understanding of statistics. During the session, she primarily focused on working on her statistics homework. Specifically, the assignment required her to develop the appropriate research questions for predicted main effects and interactions, when given several variables. She was also required to utilize the research questions she developed to conduct factorial ANOVA and/or ANCOVA analyses, as well as the appropriate post hoc tests, and subsequently interpret the results. She ran the statistical analyses during the session. Afterwards, we reviewed the output together and discussed responses to the assigned questions. I also showed her how to perform a number of functions in SPSS (e.g., screen for missing data, transform data by recoding into a different variable, and interpret main effects and interactions)."
"The student finished the assignment on regression diagnostics, and we discussed the presentation of the data output in report format. We made solid progress, and she is assimilating the substance of the material well."
"The student had a quiz that she needed to do corrections for, so we walked through the missed concepts, which then caused the answers to arise. I think we've got the least-squares regression down to a science at this point. Great work!"
"The student has an upcoming test, so we worked through a few practice problems from older chapters for review. The test is open-note and open-book, so she doesn't need to memorize the formulas. We talked about how to use them and also talked about some tips for organizing before this kind of test."
"The student needed help on homework problems. She does not have a good background in statistics and many of the concepts seemed foreign. I tried to walk her through the problems she needs to do, as well as offered to meet with her moving forward so we can visit basic foundational concepts."
