Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Went over logarithmic and exponential functions. Tonight we went into depth on half-life, pH, decibels, and the Richter scale. Reviewed for the student's test on Monday. He has a review packet to do. I reminded him that he is free to text me if he has any issues. Good work tonight in understanding a relatively new concept quickly."
"Today we went over some statistic concepts in pre-calculus. We also went over real world examples in trig (things that I am doing at work). The student told me that he had gotten an 83 on his last physics test."
"I met with the student to work on some problems involving parametric equations. He knew how to solve them, so we spent more time figuring out how to put them into the calculator and pick an appropriate window. After that we worked on his final review for a little while. There were some problems on inverses and finding a polynomial equation based on the graph (zeroes and one other point). They weren't exactly problems he'd seen before, but he was able to figure them out based on what he knew about algebra, which is encouraging. He also asked some good questions about inverses. It's probably best that we went over them so he'll know how to do them quickly on the final."
"The student and I reviewed various math concepts to solidify his understanding and prepare for his weekly Friday pre-calculus tests. We reviewed logarithms, factoring polynomials, cosine and sine graphs, inverse trigonometric functions, and finding the equations of polynomials given the roots. I took time to give him many examples to check his comprehension, ensure that he could complete his homework and exams successfully, and to reinforce concepts which might have been unclear. He gains confidence with each additional example, and proves his comprehension to both of us. I would also like to help him improve his focus especially when learning new, complex ideas. Tomorrow we will prepare further for his upcoming exam."
"First session with the student went well. She is playing catch-up with her classwork and her class is going over vectors, scales and cycloids. I spent this session getting a feel on where she is in the class and some review methods that can help her. I also gathered a list of concepts that I will review in preparation for next session."
"The student completed about 80% of the worksheet re trig function values for 30/60/90 angles. He completed most of the sheet accurately, but slowly. I think he just needs repetitive practice."
