Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student is having difficulty with basic math operations including subtraction and division - she also needs to learn her times tables. Her reading is fluent, however she needs more practice with comprehension questions and inferring strategies. I printed out some homework for her in math and directed her towards fourth grade websites that we use in school. She is very cooperative and motivated to learn. We are focusing on math word problems and basic concepts such as regrouping in subtraction and carrying over in multiplication."
"Today I help the student complete her homework assignments. For reading, I went over the suffixes and write the words to complete sentences; we also had to find and underline two words that mean the same thing as each vocabulary word. For math, we converted units to complete each equation. I helped her to draw lines to match equivalent length and completed the problem solving/test practice for section. Last, she completed the science homework on constellation, galaxy and universe."
"The student and I reviewed math homework, spelling, and reading during this session. Her math assignment was on ordered pairs. It involved plugging in different numbers for "x" for a given equation and writing the ordered pair. She completed each question with a great attitude. After a couple equations she noticed that you can write ordered pairs based off of a pattern. She enjoyed the material. Afterwards, we went over her spelling words and completed three spelling exercises. For the last 15 minutes of the session we read her novel together and discussed the main events occurring to prepare for her reading log."
"Today, the first student and I worked on pronouncing words with the short a sound. We also looked over her homework, writing words 5 times and matching numbers. She sometimes writes her words too big and not within the lines on the paper. We will continue to work on this. She demonstrated a great attitude toward the work. The second student and I worked on adding fractions, as well as some questions to prepare her for the test this Saturday. She is quick to recognize patterns and demonstrated a great attitude toward the work."
"Today, the student and I went over his homework and practiced correcting sentences. In math, he had to practice division using counters and did this with ease. Next, we read his reading log. I had to help him correct his sentences a lot today. Afterward, we worked on his book report. We worked on writing the main idea of his book. At first, he struggled with figuring out the main idea, but after I helped him by telling him to think of what the most important events of the book were, he figured it out and came up with a great summary. The last thing we did was correcting sentences. He struggled with differentiating correct sentences, run-on sentences, and sentence fragments. I saw a lot of improvement in him today."
"Today, the student and I worked on a review of his homework and practiced his addition skills. We talked about different strategies to add (for example, when given 7+9, we can think 7+10 because that's easier, then subtract 1 to get 16). We also played an addition game to practice memorizing his addition facts!"
