Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"First, I had the student take a pre-assessment test so that I can find out what his strengths and weaknesses are. Based on what answers were marked incorrectly on the preassessment, I then created a list of vocabulary topics that the student should review in order to strengthen his vocabulary word bank which included greetings, prepositions, and location of items, parts of the house, foods, adjectives and reflexive verbs. We agreed to work on sentence structure at our next meeting. I assigned him to take one practice test and one diagnostic test using his practice booklet, and I followed up with a text message to go online to practice vocabulary words. We will meet tomorrow at 10am, and I will bring worksheets to practice sentence structure. I then had him take a Spanish practice test, and we reviewed the test. I helped to guide him through reading passages and what the best answers would be based on elimination of familiar words, and how to use context clues to eliminate the wrong answers. We will continue to work on reading comprehension at our next meeting in addition to sentence structure, and reflective verbs."
"The student and I worked on Test 9, on which he scored an average of 1 to 4 incorrect answers on the reading sections. He completed another essay, and he did very well. He wrote 2 sentences of the conclusion within the allotted time and was able to complete the conclusion after I reviewed the essay. He also completed a brainstorming exercise to assist him in gathering his thoughts and organizing before he begins to write."
"Today we did SAT Critical Reading and SAT Writing. We also brainstormed examples for the Essay portion of the Writing section. The student is strong on his Writing and his Sentence Completion is strong. He sometimes misinterprets more challenging passages, but has is getting better at understanding them when breaking them down into paragraphs."
