Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"First meeting since previous test, which was a few points lower than we had expected. Used this session for post-test exercises, to both keep the student sharp and so that I could see her work through the sections (Reading and Science) that gave her the most trouble. As before, the time limit is no problem, though she may perhaps be moving a bit too fast (and thus missing some she would otherwise get correct). She continues to show good discipline and is able to explain every problem type (with text or data evidence) - all encouraging, but also not in keeping with the test day performance we've seen. Another solo practice test might be beneficial if she does not receive a full Q&A breakdown from her December test. Will meet again first weekend of the new year. Rating this session below "Excellent" despite great student performance; my own goal for "Excellent" work is to figure out exactly what is causing her to score lower on test day than with me. Figuring this out and addressing it will be our primary objective before February."
"The student took a full practice test before this session. In English, she scored a 30, which was an improvement, and she had significant extra time. Today, we discussed the appropriate contexts to use a colon. For future tests, I recommended that she reread every question before selecting her answer to prevent some of these mistakes. In reading, she scored a 31, which was better than her average, but she ran out of time and was unable to answer two questions. I suggested that she think about the science section as if it were a reading section--she should consider the whole passage before answering a question. She will take another full length practice test before our next session."
"The student went through a practice Math diagnostic test along with a practice Reading diagnostic test, scoring extremely well on both subjects- in the mid 30s. His few mistakes are purely regarding concepts that he is just unfamiliar with, such as matrices or just breaking down word problems. As we review these concepts, I anticipate that his score will improve even more."
