Session Summaries by SAT Math Tutors

SAT Math Tutoring review by Jacob in Olathe, KS
In this session, we went over the writing and reading sections of the SAT. For the writing, we went through three writing sections. The student was pretty comfortable with the first two writing sections. I suggest that he work on the writing online, focusing on narrative-related questions in order to work on focusing on the passage's content in order to better re-order bits of text. We then worked on reading, which he was more consistent with. This suggests that writing should be a focus of his studying and preparation.

SAT Math Tutoring review by Folami in Olathe, KS
We spent time discussing persuasive elements and identifying them when reading a prompt. She did really well. We also spent time going over math concepts such as rationalizing denominators and solving geometry problems that required dimensional analysis. She will complete a full practice test for next time.

SAT Math Tutoring review by Benjamin in Olathe, KS
Today the student and I reviewed the sections she had completed for today. I was glad to see improvement in each of the sections, posting scores better than anything she posted the last time we prepared for the SAT. We continued reviewing basic strategies and common formulas. I assigned some work for next week.

SAT Math Tutoring review by Abrar in Olathe, KS
The student completed her first Math (Without Calculator) Section. Many of the concepts of the section were new to her and were thus gone over in detail. Specifically, these included deriving formulas, numeric sequences, and line geometry. The student has an excellent memory of formulas and rules and rarely needed to glance at the given reference sheet. We carefully examined every question she struggled with and made sure that she was confident in her understanding. Various techniques were instructed for future tests. The student was asked to complete the remainder of the test for homework.

The student and I worked through two SAT reading comprehension passages with an emphasis on understanding passage details and context. We focused on deep reading and understanding the passage from the author's perspective. We also worked through approximately 20 SAT math questions with an emphasis on algebraic expressions and graphing.

SAT Math Tutoring review by Katie in Olathe, KS
The student and I continued our SAT intensive practice. We reviewed the math concepts discussed last week (percentages, interest, and increase/decrease) and targeted advanced math questions for the first portion of our session. Lastly, we worked through a test-like passage on the Writing & Language section, addressing questions of organization, purpose, and focus. She also effectively passage "mapped" a paired-passage on the Reading section and answered subsequent questions about main ideas, argument, and tone. I advised her to take a full-length practice test (or timed sections) sometime next week before Test Day. She is doing a remarkable job, particularly in areas she initially struggled with--great work!!
