Tutoring review by Jerilynn in Midtown Dayton, OH
We went through using the unit circle to calculate the trigonometric functions for various angles including using negative angles and angles created by full revolutions. We defined the secant, cosecant, and cotangent functions as the reciprocals of the cosine, sine, and tangent functions and how they relate to the sides of a right triangle. Lastly we looked at the two common triangles, 45-45-90 and 30-60-90, and how the sides are related to one another. The student was doing much better with the unit circle once we defined negative angles and the reciprocal functions. In physics, we reviewed vector addition by using components, rotational motion, and objects sliding down inclined planes. We defined the tangent velocity and acceleration as well as the centripetal acceleration and related them to the rotational velocity and acceleration using the radius of the circle and the conversion of one revolution as 2-pi radians. We talked about the direction of the velocity vector and the two types of linear acceleration in relation to how the object is moving. We looked at choosing how to set the xy-coordinates to make a problem easier to set up.
