Session Summaries by SAT Math Tutors

SAT Math Tutoring review by Abigail in Cranston, RI
In this session, the student and I worked mostly on the SAT essay. We outlined two practiced essays and then I gave her my outlines for writing intros, conclusions, and thesis statements for the SAT essay. We also worked on a few practice math questions, and spent some time talking about what she can expect on test day, what she should do the morning of/night before, and general strategies for answering questions.

SAT Math Tutoring review by Jenna in Cranston, RI
The student and I spent this session reviewing math concepts. Once again, we went through the new SAT standards and picked out concepts that seemed unfamiliar to her or that she knew she needed extra practice on. Primarily, we worked on identifying lines from graphs; word problems with linear equations; problems with percentages; conditional, intersection, and union probability; and a few more tidbits for quick review. I left her with some guidance on good places to find practice problems, but also let her know it's okay to take time off studying to rest, and that sleep is important.

SAT Math Tutoring review by Andy in Cranston, RI
We reviewed key concepts in math and test-taking strategies. I encouraged the student to skip and return to questions that are conceptually difficult, and focus on getting every conceptually simple question right, even if the concepts are presented in a bizarre manner.

SAT Math Tutoring review by Grace in Cranston, RI
We covered a lot of the writing section, specifically correcting writing errors. We worked on idioms, punctuation, sentence usage errors, and problems with tenses and subject verb agreement. The student worked well and was able to get a lot of problems correct. She was able to show a lot of improvement, especially with semicolons and commas. I think that she will do pretty well on the writing section.

SAT Math Tutoring review by Natalie in Cranston, RI
The student and I went over SAT Math. I had him do a timed non-calculator Math section (25 minutes) and we went over it together problem by problem. There were several concepts that he hadn't reviewed in a while, but once we started talking them out, he was able to come to a solution quickly. With some review, I'm confident that he can do well on the SAT Math section. He was a little nervous about knowing how to approach new problems, but I think that further review will remind him of the standard methods/operations for certain types of problems. He also has a review book for the SAT, and I recommended that he continue doing practice problems to refamiliarize himself with the material. Again, he's clearly a strong student who could probably just benefit from a little review.
