Tutoring review by Edward in West Columbia, TX
We covered numbers. Numbers are important because they are used to tell time, days of the week, as well as months and years. One thing they seem to like is during the last five minutes of class when I cover something culturally relevant regarding China. I call it my Chinese Cultural Minute. I am unable to do this everyday but today was Chinese idioms. Now I have been asked to bring in a different idiom everyday. The idioms not only give them an idea of the language and culture, but also there are historical aspects to each one.

The student and I reviewed the present subjunctive. He had to write ten sentences and wrote the verbs that are used to form the first clause of the subjunctive. We also reviewed the subjunctive conjugations, as well as the subject & verb agreement. Finally we reviewed the different endings for irregular, and stem-changing verbs. The student is improving at a good pace. I assigned him several online quizzes, to be completed before our next session.

Today we worked on adding and subtracting fractions, LCD, and improper fractions. We are going to meet again on Thursday for just an hour to work on slope. The student has a pretty good handle on adding and subtracting fractions, she just need to make sure she pays attention to details like negative integers and adding negative integers.

Tutoring review by Sonia in West Columbia, TX
We went over science, math, spelling, reading and writing. The student seems to struggle most with math - where they are doing multiplication and division of fractions. In science, we went over properties of light and prism. We also went over spelling for a quiz he is coming up soon and also wrote sentences with certain assigned words. I focused more on his math homework. I gave him additional problems outside of his classwork for practice. I did assign him homework to write a paragraph on a topic that is due in class on Thursday.

We covered factoring, perfect squares, and quadratic formula. She needed a little help with understanding perfect squares and remembering the FOIL method for factoring. She was very eager to understand the material and really looked for simple explanations. I showed her how I generally approach problems and she seemed to catch on quickly.
