The student and I covered motion diagrams, representing displacement and velocity using motion diagrams; we also covered the difference between uniform motion and uniform acceleration, adding vectors. We worked on problems that asked to find total displacement and the direction of displacement, and used dimensional analysis. I left her with homework problems to solidify her understanding of the concepts. In calculus, we reviewed the tangent and secant problems and the first section of chapter one in calculus.

The student and I focused on inverse trig functions. We went through how to use the inverse sine, cosine, and tangent functions to find angles. We practiced using the unit circle to evaluate arcsine, arccosine, and arctangent functions. We reviewed domain and range and talked about the domain and range for the inverse trig functions. We also talked about the graphs of the inverse sine and inverse cosine functions. We went through composite functions of a trig function and an inverse trig function. We looked at two methods for evaluating these composite trig functions by actually evaluating the inside function and by drawing the corresponding triangle if the inside function is an inverse trig function. They are doing better at graphing tangent, cotangent, secant, and cosecant functions as well as working with the unit circle to evaluate trig functions or inverse trig functions.

The student and I had a good session, going over exponential functions as well as an introduction to logarithms. She is a pleasure to work with. We have our next session this Friday, and I will be sending her a problem set to prepare for it.

The student and I had a good session. We worked through two sections of his precalc textbook. The first covered different types of graphs and finding the domain and range of functions. Then, we talked about piece-wise functions, and reviewed his homework that is due on Tuesday. Finally, we did several problems dealing with composite functions. Overall, the student did well with these concepts, and outside of a few hiccups he had a very good handle on this material. The student or his mother will contact me regarding the next session or two before his test.

The student and I met for the first time this school year. He is now in Calculus. The material we reviewed covers Limits and Average and Instantaneous speeds. This is a partial review of his Pre-Calculus course, so he picked up the concepts quickly. A change this year is that he is using an electronic text with homework. It seems that answers need to be to three decimal places to get full credit. We worked through a review of two homework sets and discussed the application of Limits and Derivatives.
