Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We covered DNA, codons, RNA, UTRs, flanking (molecular bio), biotechnology, and enzymology. We will continue our exam review on Thursday."
"We mostly talked about a plan of attack for preparing for the student's final exam Wednesday. We began some brief review today on magnetism concepts. We went over the force on a charged particle in a magnetic field. He was able to successfully complete a practice problem I gave him. Next time we will continue to look at this material more in depth."
"This evening I reviewed with the student in preparation for his final exam. The material we discussed involved comparing and contrasting DNA and RNA, transcription and translation and protein synthesis. I also reviewed cloning and the use of restriction enzymes as it applies to recombinant DNA technology. I also reviewed genetics as it relates to chromosomes, heredity, gene expression and mutations that occur in introns and exons of the DNA. We reviewed the concept of organisms, populations, communities, and ecosystems in biological organization and the influences of both biotic and abiotic substances have on the biosphere."
"We covered acid and base conversions from pH and pOH values. The student has a great attitude about chemistry, and is learning the material at a very quick pace."
"We covered organic chemistry nomenclature, numbering carbons, and structure of ethers, esters, alcohols, ketones, and aldehydes."
"Today, the student and I worked on aromaticity, tricky aromatic/ anti/ non aromatic questions. We also looked at nitrogen's hybridization, pKas, effects on resonance stability, and lone pare role in aromaticity, as well as EAS, EWG vs EDG, nitro groups on a benzene ring, determining product from multiple substituents, and synthesis strategies."
