Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student completed a rough draft of her paper. She finished the assigned discussion, and wrote an introduction and conclusion for the paper. She has an appointment with her professor on Monday to review the draft. She is anxious to move on to her next assignment, a 10 page book review for one of her Political Science classes."
"The student has his chemistry final this Friday. We went over the review notes. Since its a cumulative final, we covered a lot of material. We started with ionic equations, oxidation/reduction reactions, stoichiometry, gas laws and enthalpy. It looks like he just wanted to quick overview of each topic so he could do several problems on his own."
"Corrected math homework with mixture word problems, domain, range and graphing. Worked on diagrams of animal vs plant cells, labeling them and noting the similarities and differences. Worked on a microscope lab, calculating total magnification."
"Today we covered the student's entire 20-word vocabulary assignment and worked to contextualize all the words so that he could apply them to his own life. We then went over his book, Fever, and tried to discern the thematic elements as related to issues of class, race, and mortality. We spent the last half-hour of our session reviewing ACT; he is surprisingly adept at scientific reasoning, particularly for one so young!"
"Organization of MCAT Preparation over the next 2 months. Discussed plans for a daily routine of covering sections of material and relevant questions and answers, as well as plans for our twice weekly meetings. Discussed strategies for using online screen sharing to look at material together."
"The student and I chatted about Netflix movies, comparing favorites. Then we spent some time in the Conversation book, reviewing the conversation on Dining Out and doing exercises 5.2 and 5.3 and reading and practicing the various phrases and vocabulary introduced in this section. We followed with more work in Klaro, pp.76-78, irregular spellings of adjectives, and comparatives and superlatives of adverbs and adjectives. Lastly, we returned to the website and finished the article on Bauhaus design, then looked up another article about the punk-rock group Die Tote Hosen. We meet again on Wednesday, and he will watch the accompanying video and we will discuss the music and the topic."
