Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We began the session by going over the student's math homework, which was adding decimals. She completed her homework, and when I reviewed it for accuracy she got every single problem correct. She also seemed to really enjoy this topic in math. Afterwards, we studied for her spelling test on Friday and came up with tricks and clues to remember the spelling of some words. Even if she doesn't spell the word correctly the first time, she learns very quickly and spells it perfectly when I ask her the second time. We ended the session by reading more of her book together, and discussing what was happening in the novel. She then completed her reading log due Friday, and she wrote her analysis."
"Today, the student worked on his fractions homework- finding the equivalent. Then, we worked on reducing fractions and ordering fractions from greatest to least and vica versa. Finally, I had the student work on inferencing; he had to read a paragraph and then decide what happened next by using the clues from the story."
"Today we reviewed his past schoolwork to establish issues; reviewed his needs and discussed possible strategies for vocabulary words, reading and writing. We reviewed vocabulary words; discussed prewriting strategies for vocabulary paragraphs. Also, we discussed strategies for assigned personal reading and writing (read aloud, using 5 W's and taking notes, active reading)."
"The student is currently applying for college and needed help with college admissions papers. We worked on one of his essays, because he wanted to make sure he was answering the question he was provided with. He also sought help for asking teachers/employers for letters of recommendation. I provided him feedback and advice on that as well."
"The student was struggling with topic and structure for her admission essays. The student was very excited with my help in direction. It was a great, collaborative process. We talked about essay writing strategies and what makes a good, successful essay. We talked about paragraph/sentence mechanics, and specifically how to write a good opening paragraph, how one can be creative, and how to convey one's personality and distinctive voice in writing. All in all, this was a really positive session, and I think the student left very inspired."
"The student worked on rewriting her essay but decided she should answer a prompt with a new and shorter response. We set up a timeline to complete all outstanding requirements and deadlines to complete applications."
