Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I continued to work on reviewing the mathematics section of the exam. Again, he is clearly in possession of a great skill of math, and we only needed to review a few concepts involving simplifying square roots and working with multiple coefficients in a denominator. However, his errors come from either small mistakes that threw off his calculations or he gets stumped by the problem. I see this a lot in students who traditionally rely a lot on a calculator or don't encounter problems that relate to a concept but don't deviate from textbook examples. The exam will require him to apply his knowledge in ways he does not normally think of by taking a part of information about something he does know and wanting him to expand it to make fuller connections. Slowly, we're getting to this place by having him learning to isolate important parts of the problem and approaching the problem in the quickest manner possible. More practice is what will help, and we will resume with these strategies for our next session."
"Today the student and I set up a study plan and reviewed the SAT in general. She identified math as her problem area. I had her take part of the critical reading diagnostic test."
"The student and I worked almost exclusively on math today, working through two math sections of practice SATs in her book. We also mapped a passage in the same test and did some sentence completions."
