Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student went over a practice English test under timed circumstances and we reviewed some of the mistakes that he had issues with."
"Today we briefly discussed her progress as we have not had a session for the last few weeks. She has taken a practice test since our last lesson and scored really well. She has shown a great deal of improvement over the course of our tutoring sessions and is definitely able to achieve her goal of getting a 30. Today we focused on the English section, which was the section she scored lowest on. Her main areas of weakness were (1) grammatical errors and (2) timing. In terms of timing, she wasn't able to complete the English section on her practice test in time and had to rely on a random guessing strategy. For this, I recommended two things: practice, of course, and sticking with her intuition. Her gut brought to her the right answer most of the time. However, she often doubted herself and deliberated for some time before sticking to her answer, causing her to waste precious, score-changing seconds when added up. For most of our session tonight, we went over practice passages and worked punctuation errors. Specifically, we covered two full lengths passages then added random questions about commas, semicolons, dashes, and parentheses. I am going to send her two things to work on throughout the following week before the test - a doc with 10 full length practice tests and answers, as well as a grammar packet that reviews just about everything."
"Today we drilled for the math as English tests. The student has made strong progress, especially in the English section. I left extra math practice."
"Today the student and I discussed the math section of the ACT, performing a diagnostic and going over a variety of concepts. After we discussed the questions, she seemed to grasp the concepts quickly. I'm confident that with continued work, she has the aptitude to score well on the math section. We also discussed test-taking strategies and effective studying routines. The best way for her to improve her scores will be to put the hours in outside of our sessions, which will in turn make the tutoring much more productive."
"Today the student and I readdressed primary strategies and got back into working on sections. It seems that despite the time off, she's still succeeding with all sections. In English especially she posted an exceptional score. I still think she has potential for improvement in math, so I'm optimistic we'll raise that score quite a bit. I assigned some work for next session."
"Today the student and I reviewed ACT Science and Reading sections. On the practice test assigned for homework, she scored well for English and Math. We just need to focus more on Science and Reading in order to score above her goal. For homework, she must complete the rest of the full-length practice test we were working on today. Good job!"
