You can spend as many sessions as you want practicing conclusion structure until you get it right, or you can gloss over topic sentences if you feel you've already achieved understanding there.

The student & I continued to correct an essay she wrote for me about her daily routine during this session. I also reviewed her reading-and-answer-questions homework for her (from school), she did very well on it. She also started to write an essay for next week about different steps when learning how to ice skate, so that we can practice transition words, sentence structure, paragraph formation, etc.

The student was very productive during today's session. We started off finishing the sentences for her vocabulary words. Following that assignment, she worked on reading comprehension using her workbook. We finished with the workbook for the year, and tomorrow I will be administering a post-test for her to complete. Following a short break, we continued with her math review. Today's review went over telling time, counting by 2s and 5s, as well as reading charts and tables. Lastly, we reviewed her writing skill in her handwriting workbook.

Today we mostly just did general setup work. I got a sense of the student's writing style and capabilities and we went over what we could of what he has been learning in class. I gave him a brief writing exercise and we went through and edited it together. His main issue (self-admitted) was that he has trouble expressing his thoughts well in written work, but he believes he has a decent vocabulary and doesn't have too much trouble coming up with ideas for writing (though he does still hit writer's block occasionally). He just finished up the end of a quarter, so we will review his work for the next quarter soon. I expect we will continue working on constructing tight and coherent sentences and organizing his writing in a readable way, since he mostly writes in a stream of consciousness style at the moment.
