Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We went over all the grammar-related parts of the student's upcoming Spanish test. We made study guides for each section and went over what she should do this weekend to become prepared for the test Monday."
"We started reviewing the math concepts for the test today. The student is quite comfortable with fractions: adding, subtracting, simplifying, multiplying and dividing. We worked on converting between fractions and decimals, which the student knows but is not completely comfortable with. Finally, we worked on percentage; converting between fractions, decimals, and percent, and solving percentage word problems."
"The student and I reviewed chapter 10. We went over exponential growth and decay. She was able to write equations of exponential functions given two points. We then reviewed the properties of logarithms and how to solve equations with logs. We went over natural logs and the difference between common logarithms. Over all, she seemed to have a firm grasp on the chapter. I will make a practice test for the student to help prepare for the upcoming test."
"Today was mostly working on transformations and translations of functions on a graph. It's taking him a little while to process the concepts, but once he has it, he gets it pretty clearly. We worked through his homework, and some other practice exercises on composite functions as well, where he's also struggling somewhat, but is definitely better since the last session."
"I wanted to incorporate some math today, so I made six pages labeled with a different number and a different item--for instance, six dogs--and brought some stickers and magazines for the student to look through and find the items. Afterward we read a story."
