Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"During this session the student and I began by discussing math questions and briefly discussing some of the practice questions. We then moved on to the essay portion of the SAT practice book and talked about some useful tools. As part of her homework, the student will write two essay responses to be scored. We then worked through essay section practice questions. She is progressing really well and gaining confidence in her ability to use test taking tools to find the right answers. "
"Topics covered: Student's recent scores, her applications and application requirements, recent progress and goals. We also went over her performance on recent essays and where to improve (not a big priority), FOILing and factoring practice. We reviewed problems she missed on a recent online test (probability, distributions, factoring, general algebra, absolute values, assorted algebra). Her progress so far has been her nailing the essay section, so I do not feel that needs more time. We have not discussed the verbal section almost at all, and so that deserves some time on the next session. I will continue reviewing algebra with her, as I feel that will continue to be the area where she can achieve rapid improvement."
"The student and I reviewed more trigonometric identities, especially the double angle identities for sine, cosine, and tangent. We practiced some of his assigned problems and explored multiple ways to attack certain problems. I feel this is beneficial so that he will feel comfortable re-attempting the more difficult problems on his upcoming chapter test. Another good session."
"The student has continued to work intensely from the test prep book and a vocabulary list that she obtained independently. She had only one or two difficulties with the tough math problems she worked in preparation for this session, but we were able to learn from these mistakes. On reading comprehension, the very difficult content in the test prep book is not disheartening her at all: "Finally I get some wrong," she reported. We worked through some of these questions together."
"We went over graphing trig functions. We specifically went through Sin and Cos, including how the amplitude and periodicity are altered. At the end, we started going over Tan and some of its properties."
"We completed passages that involved work and energy, fluids, genetics and the PCR method, genes, bioenergetics, and carbohydrates. Overall, I was very happy to see how the student answered almost all questions correctly and with confidence. It is clear that she really knows her content and how to best apply it to the passages. I did not feel that she was weak in any topic today and I am impressed with the exceptional performance she displayed during this session. I hope that she continues to keep it up!"
