Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student is in a nursing program and has a required course in statistics. She needed help with simple linear correlation and regression and help making charts (cluster charts, pie charts, and histograms). We had a great first session, and she understands conceptually what correlation and regression are now, as well as how to create scatterplots, find the regression equation, and calculate for estimated values of y. We will continue with histograms and pivot charts for next session."
"The student made great progress on his final project, including finalizing his results section and completing all of his hypotheses. He also made great headway on his abstract. Overall, great session! Good work!."
"The student wanted help using a statistical analysis to show an effect he was interested in from a related publication. He explained his theory and the idea we were testing. I helped him find a test that would work for his data, run it, and provided him with a write-up. He will contact me if he obtains more data he would like to analyze."
"The student will be taking her final tomorrow evening. Today, we had a chance to cover Chapters 5 and 6, and the rest of the lesson she feels comfortable that she will be able to study on her own."
"The student's statistics class began about a month ago, and this week they started chapter 6: sampling distributions. Up to this point, her class has covered gathering data, calculating probability with one and two variables, and probability distributions. She felt that she started to really get 'lost' during the last chapter on probability distributions. At the beginning of the session, I wanted her to know what I believed we could accomplish in the first session, which was really the main objectives of chapter 6 and nothing earlier, and that it would be a few weeks before she saw consistently better grades. We briefly went over a few of the concepts in chapter 5, like intersection, union, binomial, and continuous random variables, before spending the rest of the session on distributions for sample means and proportions."
"This is the first session with the student to help him with statistics before he takes the class. We went over probability problems and practiced using his calculator, showing him where to find different functions and features."
