Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today was my first session with the student, and I was able to help her complete her homework assignment for her class. We talked a lot about inverses and functions. She seemed to really understand everything, but just needed some extra guidance on how to get started for a few of them. "
"Today we covered binomial and trinomial factoring, the difference of squares, and the quadratic formula. The student did well with algebraic manipulation. He had retaken a physics quiz and improved his grade from a 62 to a 73."
"Today we covered challenging factoring and complex fractions problems from the last test's material and graph transformation problems from the current section. The student seemed to have a grasp of most concepts and showed more understanding as we went through more practice problems. I suggested that he show his work more carefully, since most of his mistakes came from losing track of certain terms or making simple errors in calculations. We went over strategies for tackling factoring problems and some ways to think about factoring as it becomes more important in Pre-Cal. We agreed to go over his first test in our next session as he will get it back this week, and go over any quizzes from the week."
"Today we covered function transformations and talked in depth about how changes to the functions can affect their shape and position on a graph. How do functions move in the x and y direction? How does multiplying variables in a function affect the graph? These are the concepts we discussed. We then talked about the application of this for trigonometric functions like sin and cos. Finally, I ended by summarizing all the steps we learned."
"Today we covered how to graph polynomial functions in the format of F(x) = a (x-h) + k. Furthermore we went over how to identify x^2 and x^3 graphs, whether they are reflected, and how to determine their extremas as well as their zeros. Lastly, we went over how to do polynomial divisions and went through the Factor Theorem. He is not struggling in these areas, but would like to continue tutoring when he learns more material."
"Today we covered more material to prepare her for an upcoming exam. I gave her additional practice from the online platform, and we covered more polynomial factoring, finding imaginary and real roots, domain restrictions of rational functions, solving inequalities, solving absolute value equations, graphing rational functions, and adding rational polynomials. She definitely remembered the material from Thursday, and for the most part knew how to solve supplementary material."
